Red in the Rainbow
2019-2020
Deconstructed Pride Flag, paper, ink, thread
The colour red symbolizes “life” in the original version of the rainbow flag. The work Red in the Rainbow is directly inspired by th book The Red in the Rainbow: Sexuality, Socialism and LGBT Liberation (2010) by author Hannah Dee. The works deals with queer rioting, struggles and demonstrations, in contrast to the original meaning of the red stripe of the flag; life. The red colour of the fabric combined with the draping represents the uprisings and tragedies of the LGBTQ+ community, while the accompanying zine brings in underground feminist and LGBT zine-traditions.
